Last week we introduced you to the complicator.

We started using this term in the early days of LevelUp, and it just stuck. Examples of complicators:

We use the presence or absence of complicators to set our word, phrase, and sentence levels.
We also use facilitators whenever possible. A facilitator is the opposite of a complicator.

Using facilitators, we are able to create “phonetically friendly” targets. These include words and phrases that can help a student produce their target sound.

By using complicators and facilitators in our leveling process, we can help SLPs meet each student where they are and guide them to mastery.
